Our big news for April is the introduction of the 4G bioacoustic recorder, with the ability to record all vocalising animals and soundscapes. The Owl 4G enable you to get your recordings sent to you either as the call is recorded or once a day at a time set by you. No more waiting to hear what is happening in the field.
We attended ANET 2026 in Brisbane last month. It was another well-organised and run conference by Rod, Narelle and the team. Great speakers and presentations. A lot of interest in our LinkEye Private Network Camera System for use in monitoring animal movements near transport corridors. With a line of sight connection between cameras and the base station of 5 km, there is a lot of ground that can be covered.
The Soil Acoustic Meter (SAM) had an interest in monitoring fire ant nests. Yes, they have been tried here in Australia on a range of ant nests, and it does pick up the ant movements.
We are exhibiting at the Grounded Festival this month in the Otways. This is a great festival around regenerative farming and healthy soils, more in the newsletter.
The plastic recycling program is getting noticed now that the technology is in full production in the Netherlands. Saffron Aid has been invited to discuss with relevant NSW state politicians about the benefits and how our system fits into the circular, low carbon economy and generate employment and the funding of a wide variety of projects.
Remote bioacoustics just got smarter - 4G enabled acoustic device.
The Owl Acoustic Recorder is now 4G enabled! That means mobile connectivity is here — making it easier and more economical than ever to check in on your remote recorder and to receive data as recorded or at a set time each day.
OWL stands for Ornithological Wildlife Link.
Records birds, frogs and other vocalising animals.
Upload recordings via FTP (standard) or customised HTTPS. Record in WAV or MP3. Analysis is done by you or can be sent to a third party for analysis, e.g., Wilder Sensing.
Upload sound files when recorded or set a time once a day directly to your FTP.
Remotely check your recorder’s status anytime,
Rechargeable Li battery pack,
Optional upgrade to a 12V external solar power pack or a solar panel to recharge the batteries.
Looking for a flexible camera monitoring system that works even in remote areas?
Our system supports up to 16 cameras, all operating with just one SD card, sending images directly to your FTTP server or the Cloud app. With line-of-sight communication up to 5 km (or 1–3 km through mountains or forest), it’s designed for reliable performance in challenging environments.
The system delivers a 30 Mbps data rate from cameras to the base station, ensuring fast, consistent data transfer.
Base stations then send the collected data from the connected cameras to the control centre via Internet, 4G network, or optical fibre, providing flexible connectivity options.
The platform is also expandable, enabling integration of additional devices, including environmental monitoring sensors, walkie-talkies, and other field equipment.
PlasTech Recycling Limited’s Plastic Mixer Melter was officially commissioned by Queen Maxima of the Netherlands on 1 April 2026.
This machine processes 4,000 tonnes of plastic and textile waste each year into durable construction products.
Powered by Australian developed and manufactured technology, the facility tackles hard to recycle plastics and helps cut CO₂ emissions. A strong step forward for the circular economy.
See how Saffron Aid aims to use plastic for positive change here in Australia and the Indo-Pacific region https://saffronaid.com/plastic-recycling/
GROUNDED festival is held in a different location every year so each festival is a unique, unmissable event. In April 2026, the festival will be held on the beautiful Yan Yan Gurt West Farm in Victoria’s spectacular Otway Ranges.
Over two unforgettable days, Yan Yan Gurt West will come alive: bold conversations, standout speakers, hands-on workshops and paddock demonstrations across multiple stages.
We will be demonstrating the Soil Acoustic Meter (SAM) on both days with on field demonstrations to find the noisiest soil on the property.
Also on display will be our cameras and our range of bioacoustic recorders.
Who Is Talking in My Backyard? is a citizen science project that engages students and community members in monitoring urban wildlife using acoustic technology.
A fantastic project launching in Citizen Science Month.
We are happy to announce our first sponsor for the project, Transgrid. Many thanks to the team at Transgrid for sponsoring, it will make this project go that little bit further.
